About Neal Krouse
My Name is Neal Krouse and I’m a Seattle web designer and web developer. I believe web design should be intuitive, usable and accessible. Web sites should be designed with web standards. My websites are cross-browser solutions that separate structure, presentation and behavior.
I take great pride in my web designs and write clean, pragmatic code by hand using BBEdit on an Apple Mac Pro.
My skills include:
- Semantic XHTML markup
- Progressively enhanced CSS 1, CSS 2 and CSS 3
- Unobtrusive JavaScript (particularly jQuery)
- AJAX/DHTML
- Layout and visual design
My web work is not limited to the web page design. I also develop back-end coding, email campaigns, and PDF programming.
Other skills include:
- PHP
- MySql
- Python
- .htaccess files on Apache servers
- Email marketing
- PDF programming (JavaScript and server-side scripting)
Software is the key to web site production. I have a deep understanding in the software I use and, when ever possible, I enhance it with Python, JavaScript and AppleScript to make me more productive.
Software I use:
- BBEdit
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Illustator
- Adobe Acrobat
- Adobe InDesign
Before I developed web sites, I was a print designer and advertising art director. I worked in New York and Seattle. While the web is a media and not a sheet of paper, a background in advertising and print gives me a deeper understanding in user experience and motivations.
